The Seandún GAA City Division were delighted to host the City Division Banquet on Friday the 22nd of November this year. here was a great turn-out from clubs within the division for the Banquet, and it was great to welcome everyone to the Clayton Hotel in Silversprings for a lovely evening. A number of awards and presentations were done throughout the night, and a very insightful Questions and Answers Session with former Seandún and Cork players took place.
Club of the Month
The Club of the Month awards, kindly sponsored by Garry McCarthy Trophies, were presented by Seandún GAA Chairman Mick Buckley, Minister of the State Dept of Health Colm Burke TD, and Cathaoirleach of the Seanad, Senator Jerry Buttimer.
The following clubs received awards on the night:
March – Bishopstown
For their success in retaining the under 21 A Football Championship and adhering to the fixture league programme without requesting a change.
April – Ballyphehane
In the Division 2 football grade, there were a number of candidates. Ballyphehane received this award for winning the League, and their performances in reaching the Confined County Junior Championship Final. The club also started a minor grade this year.
May – Rochestown
For their notable performances in the Division 4 Football League, No requests to change a fixture and their success in winning the Flor McCarthy Cup Final.
June – Nemo Rangers
For their excellent achievement in winning the Divisions 1 , 3, and 4 Football Leagues. They were also winners of the inaugural Eilis MacCurtain Ladies Football Cup within the Seandún division.
July – Brian Dillons
This award was for their commitment to the Junior hurling leagues and championship. Gracious and Magnanimous in their defeats without a request for a fixture change, demonstrating the motto, ” It’s All About Taking Part”.
August – Whites Cross
For the top class performances in the Junior Hurling Championships. Consistent during this period for supplying team sheets for match programmes, no requests for fixture change and no disciplinary issues. They also reached success by winning the Junior C Football Championship.
September – Glen Rovers
For their performances in all grades during the championships. Consistent during this month in fulfilling games without changes and the success to regain senior status at the first attempt.
October – Douglas
Captured the Junior A and B Football Championships on the same day. Had no disciplinary issues or requested a fixture change during this period.
November – St. Finbarrs
For their performances in the closing stages of the Hurling and Football Championships. Along with securing the Junior B Hurling Championship, the success of the Under 21 Hurlers for the first time since 1997. No Request for fixture changes.
Referee of the Month
The award for the Referee of the Month is based on individuals’ commitment and loyalty to the Seandún board. Once appointed, they carried out their duties without giving matches back to the Referees administrator. Their assistance as linesmen to help out Referees during Championship games in Ballinlough was also very evident.

PharmaCare U21 Hurling & Football Championships
Our U21 Hurling & Football Championships were extremely competitive this year, and we would like to thank PharmaCare Distribution Ltd for coming on board to sponsor the Competition.

Next, the AOS Security Hurling & Football Leagues, and the Cormac O’ Connor Butchers & Foodhall Cup Competition Medals were presented. Again we would like to thank both sponsors for their support during the year and in the running of these competitions.

Players of the Championship
Next up, Seandún GAA Chairman Mick Buckley and Vice Chairman of Cork GAA Noel O’ Callaghan presented the awards for players of the Championship, again kindly sponsored by Garry McCarthy Trophies. It was extremely hard to narrow down the winners, as there was a wealth of talent in all divisions this year in the City Division.
Recipients as follows:
Junior A Hurler of the Championship – Cillian Egan of Whitechurch
With each game in the AOS Security Junior A Hurling Championship, Cillian consistently showed his wide range of skills and after a narrow contest, he shaded this award by a single point from the next player.
Junior B Hurler of the Championship – Cian Buckley of St. Finbarrs
Cian had a great year with excellent displays for his club at centre forward in the AOS Security Junior B Hurling Championship.
Junior A Footballer of the Championship – Harry Quilligan of Douglas
Harry was another outstanding performer in a highly competitive AOS Security Junior A Football Championship.
Junior B Footballer of the Championship – Barry Fitzgerald of Douglas
Barry receives this award for his performances as a top scoring forward along with his hard work throughout in the AOS Security Junior B Football Championship.
Junior C Footballer of the Championship – Jason Walsh of Rochestown
Jason receives this award for his consistent performances in the AOS Security Junior C Football Championship. Unfortunately Jason could not attend on the night, but a representative from Rochestown collected the award on his behalf.
Questions & Answers Session
We had a fantastic Questions & Answers Session to break up the presentations on the night, with Host Ger Canning first introducing all of the panel members – Paddy O’ Shea, Justin McCarthy, Seanie McGrath and Jimmy Barry Murphy. Attendees were treated to an in-depth and insightful conversation that gave insight into the 4 panel members, their memories of Seandún and playing in the City Division, and their hopes for the Cork senior teams in the future. Thank you to all panel members and host Ger Canning for a great Q & A Session!
Hall of Fame
Mick Barry of Delanys, and current President of the Seandún GAA City Division was inducted into the City Division “Hall of Fame” due to his lifelong service to both Delanys, and the City Division. It was a great honour for the Division to present this award to Mick, and equally as great that he attended the banquet to collect his award, along with members of his family. Mick spoke to our MC Finbarr McCarthy and it was safe to say that the award was very much deserved. Congratulations Mick!

The Seandún GAA City Division Committee would like to thank all the clubs, delegates and volunteers who attended the Banquet – it was great to get a high level of support. We would also like to thank Finbarr McCarthy, who acted as MC on the night, and Eddie O Hare who took all of the fantastic photographs on the night. Lastly, we would like to thank all of the staff at the Clayton Hotel who did a marvellous job on the night, and throughout all of the planning for the Banquet!
