All at Seandun GAA were absolutely delighted to launch two new cup competitions for 2024 – the Eilís McCurtain and Muirgheal McSwiney Cups. While we have been running the cups that commemorate Tomas McCurtain and Terence McSwiney since the 1950’s for our Junior City Division clubs, we have also designed these competitions to commemorate Eilís and Muirgheal in memory of their two wives.
The Muirgheal McSwiney Cup is open to the city division Camogie teams, while the Eilís McCurtain Cup is open to city division Football teams, and both were launched in City hall by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Kieran McCarthy.
The planning for these cups started back in 2023, and a special thanks must go to Deirdre Forde, who has been a huge supporter of getting this competition off the ground as acting Lord Mayoress last year. We would also like to thank members of the MacCurtain and MacSwiney families, who have shown great support with these competitions also.
The draws were made in the City Hall by Leah Hartnett McCurtin, great-great-grand-daughter of Tomás and Eilís McCurtain.
Best of luck to all ladies teams that are competing this year in the first Eilís McCurtain and Muirgheal McSwiney Cup competitions!
